2017 Best of Beauty + Tutorial | Beauty

4:24 PM

Hi, Dolls and Gents,

Today, I wanted to share with you the products I have been loving for 2017. I haven’t done one of these in a while, so I thought I would share my favourites and give a makeup tutorial using those products.

Products I loved in 2017

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer

This primer was a major discovery for me in 2017. I didn't think I would ever try an Hourglass product in my life. But, this primer was some I pick up on the checkout line in Sephora. This is the perfect primer for my combination/oily skin guys and girls. This primer fills in your pores and leaves you with a smooth t-zone as well helps control your oil. Though it is not targeted as an oil controlling primer, it does control some oil. I am debating whether or not I should go purchase the full size of this primer. I highly recommend it.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Ebony

This has been my OG eyebrow product since I have started my blog and honestly, I don't think there will be any other brow product that can beat this. I love pomade because I get a natural and dramatic brow, but I always go for the defined bold brow. I will always recommend this product.

L.A. Girl Pro Conceal in Toast and Espresso

Again, this concealer has been an OG concealer since I started my blog. I love that this concealer is a full coverage, matte, and super affordable concealer. In my eyes, nothing can beat this concealer. I used this concealer as foundation, highlight and contour. Maybe in 2018, I will try new concealers out.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filter Soft Matte Longwear Foundation in 460/470

This has to be the top foundation in 2017. Fenty Beauty killed it in 2017 with the release of this foundation. There was so much hype around this brand for good reason, but the shade selection was out of this world. This will always be a favourite for me because it was the first time I could actually find a foundation with the correct undertone that matched my chest to face very well. I matched myself to 470, which is my summer shade and 460 is my winter shade and both of matching me perfectly. I have to purchase this foundation in both shades, I have tried it continuously with samples.

Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder in Dark

This, after the Fenty foundation, has to be the top product that I discovered in 2017. This Maybelline Fit Me Loose Powders literally changed the game for me. I was shocked with this products, prior to using this I was using the Black Opal True Color Loose Powder and I have chosen this one over the Black Opal every time. I bought a back up just in case I finish my first one, which I haven't at all. I am now about halfway done this product. This powder this your face flawless and controls oil. I can not say enough good things about this powder.

Maybelline Fit Me Pressed Powder in 325 Cream Beige

Again, another OG product that has been with me from the beginning. Last year was a year of me discover some old love. I used this powder in conjunction with the loose powder and my face looked flawless and highlighted. used this powder to set my concealer under my eyes, bridge of nose, chin and forehead. I have never really consistently used this product, but I loved how it looked with the Fit Me loose powder.
The two make the best powder for an airbrush finish.

Morphe 35O Matte Palette

The hype of this palette is so long gone now, but for me, I can understand why people loved it so much. I discovered this palette and it was the perfect transition palette for me. I contented all the colour I need to create any looks, but all the transition shades I could need if any palette has failed me. The colours are warm and up my alley. If you are women of colour, you need this in your life.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette

The release of this palette literally took social media by storm. I feel for the hype, but I could you not resist the warm orange and cranberry colours of this palette. I was attracted to the cranberry colour and the bright orange. This palette is dark warm colours, it makes it ideal for Autumn. The shimmers and mattes in the palette are soft and easy to blend. This is my first ABH palette and I can't what to try the other ones out.

Desi x Katy Dose of Colors The Girls Palette

This is my fav YouTuber collar yet. I actually don’t own a lot, but this collection was so beautiful. Desi, Katy and Anna did an amazing job working together to bring this collar to life. Desi and Katy The Girls palette was not what everyone expected, they went for all shimmer, foil eyeshadow palette. Honestly, I love them for that. Everyone has their go-to ‘life palette’ that Desi and Katy like to call it, they contain the perfect transition shades and lid shades. For me, this palette is everyone the shades I really pigmentated, creamy and foiled. I love creating different looks with these shadows. Two of the shades can be wet and two are used dry with finger application. You get the best colour payoff when you use as Desi and Katy have directed.

Desi x Katy Dose of Colors Mírame Highlighter

Again, another product for the collection. This highlight spoke me when I saw it. It was a rose gold highlighter and I wanted it so badly. The formula of the Dose of Colors highlighter is creamy, soft and easy to blend. This highlight is no natural highlighter, it is an 'I can see for outer space' highlighter. I like to say that I have the Instagram glow with this highlight.

Makeup Geek Contour Powder and Blush

Well, being that last year was the year, I finally order from Makeup Geek. I got the Scandal contour powder. It is the perfect shade to contour my skin with. Makeup Geek released this contour powder for all different skin tone, I was kind of hesitant to actually try it because I was not sure if it was going to be deep enough. Well, it is. This is my only contour powder that I own and I love it. The formula is smooth, blendable, and pigmentated. My only thing is if she can bring even darker shades so that women or men who are darker than me have a shade to contour with. This Soulmate blush honestly was my blush of the year. When I order this blush, I wasn't sure that is was going to even appear on the skin and it looks really pink. Well, this blush has been in every makeup tutorial and makeup look I have worn last year. It is the perfect purple-pink blush for my skin tone. The description of the blush does not match how it appears on my skin, so if you want to try it out. Please do so.

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara

I swear this mascara had to be the most hype drugstore mascara. Literally, I don't even know how it happens. But all the hype around this mascara is really. This mascara is the perfect for volume and length. It is an all-around amazing mascara. It has been compared to Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. They both have the same wand style, but since I have not tried out the Too Faced mascara, I do not the formula. The formula on this mascara is not too dry or wet, but my only thing is that this mascara pulls out a lot of the formula, so just be aware of that.

Essence Waterproof Felt Eyeliner

This has been my go-to liquid/felt eyeliner. I love Essence eyeliner, they are affordable and really good. This is their waterproof version, and though I hate waterproof makeup,  I really enjoy this liner because it doesn't bleed after a long days wear, like other eyeliner does on my eyes. The felt tip comes to a nice point making doing winged liner really easy. The only thing is that this eyeliner dries out quickly, but it under $ 5.00 so I am okay with that.

DODO Lashes in D119

This is probably cheating, but I have only been wearing these lashes for like two months. They are the perfect winged-out lashes. If you guys remember, I did a review that I discuss the DODO lashes in D105. I could not get down with that lash, so I was hesitant to get this one, but I am glad I did. This lashes can get you the perfect dramatic yet natural lashes ever. This is lashes I always wear if I am looking for some drama.

Desi x Katy Dose of Colors Saváge Liquid Lipstick

This is the ultimate fall/winter lip colour. Desi and Katy killed with this colour. This liquid lipstick is named perfectly. The deep blacken cherry liquid lipstick makes all my vampy lip products, second tier. The colour is beautiful and it is the first time that I am trying Dose of Colors liquid lipstick formula.  Thr formula is not drying on the lips, it is hydrating and it doesn't sit in the cracks of your lips.

NYX Lip Lingerie in Beauty Mark

I have loved this liquid lipstick from when I discovered it. The NYX Lip Lingerie is the best affordable liquid lipstick I have tried. I haven't tried a lot of the colours, but the formula is not drying and I live for the colour Beauty Mark. It is the perfect nude lipstick for my skin tone. I do not need to wear a liner with, though I do sometimes for a more 90s brown lip. I have repurchased this lipstick about two times and will continue to do so. They also released new colour and I am excited to try those ones out.

NYX Butter Gloss in Gingersnap

The perfect nude gloss for women of colour that is why it is always sold out. This butter gloss gives me life. When I discovered it, I couldn't believe that I didn't find it sooner. The gloss is the perfect gloss for any nude lip. Glossy lips have been a trend in 2017 and this feeds into for me. I wore this gloss alone or on top of liquid lipstick.

Too Faced Melted Latex High Shine Liquified Lipstick in Strange Love

My first Too Faced lip product. This melted Latex lipstick is on sale. I have heard a lot of people talked about it. But this lipstick is a lipstick and gloss combined. It is like the ABH lipgloss, but not really. This liquified lipstick has the opaque and longevity of a lipstick, but a shine of a gloss. I really do enjoy this lipgloss, I have had it for like a month now, but it is the perfect nude brown with a brown lip liner for my skin. I recommend you check it out.

Now, that I talked about each product and give how I love and how it changed my life. Here is the makeup look that I created using the products that I loved in 2017.

  9. Going into the ABH Modern Renaissance palette using the BH blending brush I add more warmth by adding 'Red Ochre' and 'Love Letter' as a transition colour.

  12. Using Desi x Katy Dose of Colors the Girls palette, I went into with 'Noli' in my BH Flat Shadow brush and apply it to my lid.
  13. I lined my eyes with essence waterproof felt liner and created a winged liner. I applied L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara to my top and bottom lashes. I applied the Dodo lashes in D119 with DUO lash glue.
